Electricity travels from the battery to the starter motor through a starter solenoid on all boats with electric start engines. If nothing happens when you turn the ignition key to the start position, you may have a solenoid problem. A solenoid is responsible for delivering battery voltage to the starting motor. When the electronic contact inside the starter solenoid activates, a circuit is formed that allows electrical current to flow from the battery to the starter, which turns the engine over.
