The trigger or timer base is located beneath the flywheel, beside the stator, and the most overlooked part of the ignition system. The trigger sends a signal to the CDI unit (power pack or switch box) and tells it when to release voltage to the coil. It provides an indicator to the ignition pack to fire the correct cylinder at the right time. A faulty trigger will result in no or intermittent spark and often misidentified as a fault with the power pack. Additionally, a malfunctioning trigger shorting to the ground will damage a power pack. Evinrude, Johnson, And Gale Outboard Motors Timer Base - CDI Electronics (133-5386) application for two-stroke engines and use a 3 Wire Timer Base, w/ S.L.O.W.
