On engines with fuel injection, an electric fuel pump is utilized to transfer fuel from the gas tank to the injectors. The machine has to operate with proper fuel pressure to function. The engine may run lean, misfire, hesitate, or stall if there is insufficient pressure, which deprives it of fuel. The engine may run rough, waste gasoline, and emit pollutants if the fuel pressure is too high. Although some may be well-positioned outside the tank, electric fuel pumps are well-mounted inside the fuel tank.
Key Features:
- The electric pump motor's buzzing noise is reduced by the in-tank placement and is lubricated and cooled by the fuel used to submerge the pump.
- Pump life can be shortened by driving with less than 1/4 full fuel tank since it will run hot.
- It also raises the possibility of briefly running out of fuel when stopping, accelerating, or suddenly turning.
