A push button switch is a tiny, sealed mechanism that, when pressed, completes an electrical circuit. A metal spring within makes contact with two wires when it is turned on, letting electricity flow. The spring retracts when the switch is off, breaking the contact, which prevents current flow.
By depressing a button on the push button start key fob, the driver can start their vehicle. You won't be able to turn your car's wheels, though, if you don't apply the brakes. Similarly, your push-button start won't turn off your engine if you don't put your gear in park.
