I/O boats have engines hidden behind a cowling in the back of the vessel. A power trim is attached to the propeller and prop shaft, which raises and lowers this component of the engine. The shaft and propeller must be lifted if the power trim malfunctions. When lifting the prop shaft up and locking it into the upright position, it helps to have one or two assistance. Many novices have successfully pulled an engine with few problems, especially when they have the right tools. It's easier if you bring a friend to help. When removing an engine, use caution and common sense. If something heavy isn't adequately secured, don't get underneath it.
