The most common way for accelerator cables to fail is to break. They can deteriorate with age and use, eventually snapping. It is also not uncommon for them to become out of adjustment, resulting in a noticeable effect. If the cable breaks or comes out of adjustment far enough, it can impair the vehicle's drivability to the point where it will not be drivable until the problem is gone. When there is a problem with the accelerator cable, a few symptoms will usually be displayed.
